Due to the increased stiffness and some sort of added tread, the ribs also improve the tires traction during cornering.If this effect is not desired (i.e to reduce steering on the front axle), you can also mount the tires with the ribs to the inside, of course. It just has be considered when you glue the tires. Another way to reduce the tires grip at the outer edge is cutting some of the outer pins. This makes a tire less aggressive during cornering; another possibility to match the cars behavior to the track and make it more drivable.
